TOUR MANAGEMENT

Week 1 - Introduce mentor. What is a TM? What are their responsibilities? List of important tools. Overview and what we aim to achieve over next few weeks

Week 2 - Who our working relationships are while on tour? Individuals on the tour and off.

Week 3 - Budgets. What needs to be included in the budget? What are the essentials? Different scenarios for various size tours.

Week 4 - Preparing advance document. Rider etc.. What needs to be included? Sending Advance to promoters and the information you need to obtain.

Week 5 -  What needs to be included in a tour book?

Week 6 - Creating a Tour Book and entering information.

Week 7 - Settling a show (collecting payment). Contracts.

Week 8 - Accounting paperwork

Week 9 - On the tour: Day to day responsibilities? 

Week 10 - Problems / problem solving 

Week 11 - Settling a tour with agent / management.

MIXING MONITORS

Week 1: Intro to mixing monitors

  • What are you trying to achieve?

  • The right tools for the job.

  • Career stages.

Week 2: Basic Audio - 

  • Gain staging, pans, HI/low filters, eq, fx, dynamic’s

  • Basic set up

  • Use of metering, setting up IEM transmitters

Week 3: Preparation for working for artists

  • Prep for Production tours / prep for non production tours

  • Covering other people on their Show files 

Week 4: Show file set up

  • Basic - club / theatre / General touring

  • Advanced - Arena production tour

  • Multi band Award Show 

Week 5: Gear choice -  Microphones, Desks, plugin’s, Outboard etc

  • What you have to have! / What you want!

  • Defining what is necessary!

Week 6: Mixing Desk overviews

  • Avid, Digico, SSL, Yamaha Midas / Behringer, Allen & Heath.

  • Advantages and disadvantages

  • Spec’ing the right console for your show. 

Week 7: Advanced Audio 

  • Eq, Dynamic Eq / Fx, Reverb’s, Delays, Auto Tune, m

  • Dynamic’s, Expander’s, multi band comps,

  • Virtual soundcheck

Week 8: Automation

  • When to recall, when to not / What to recall, what to not.

  • How to make the equipment make your life easier

Week 9: RF for monitor engineers

  • Most used equipment / Necessary accessories

  • Frequency planning / Use of Ariels

  • audio settings / radio settings

Week 10: Phycology of monitors, 

  • listening to musicians and translating their requests.

  • The work outside of Mixing

Week 11: Business Side,

  • Admin - Invoicing, accounting, etc

  • Relationships - Networking, building a contact base

  • Understanding the hierarchy of live production show. etc

  • Conditions, basic negotiating.
